What are the time commitments?
This is a two-year study. We expect the total length of time for each year to be about 6 hours. The time will be split into a neuropsychological assessment and fMRI-prep session and an fMRI scanning session. A year later, the child will again participate in scanning and assessment.

What is involved in the research study? The study consists of two sessions: A neuropsychological assessment and an fMRI scanning session.

What happens during an fMRI scan? Please see this page for more information about MRI technology.

Who cannot be scanned? If the child has any history of head or eye injury involving metal fragments, implanted electrical device (such as a cardiac pacemaker), or severe heart disease (including susceptibility to arrhythmias), he/she should not have an MR scan. If the child has had eye surgery to remove metal fragments from the globe (eyeball), then he/she should not have an MRI scan. Also, your child should not be scanned if he/she has claustrophobia.

Is my participation and the findings of this study confidential? Any data that may be published in scientific journals will not reveal the identity of the subjects. The use of data acquired during the child’s participation in this project will be limited to research and educational purposes only.

Is there any compensation for participation? Research subjects will be offered up to $100 for participation in the study (up to $50 for assessment and up to $50 for MRI procedure) depending on how much of the sessions are completed. Payment will be given upon completion of each session.

What should I do if my child is interested in participating? Please see the Participate link for more information regarding participation.
